Job Description and Duties 

Seeking interesting and diverse strategic planning work with an emphasis on analysis and modeling?  Look no further!  The Strategic Water Planning Branch provides planning and technical expertise across DWR programs in support of the California Water Plan Program (CWP).  Products from our program include a CWP Update strategic plan.

 

The Engineer, WR performs engineering and planning analyses including current and future water needs relative to supply availability and long-term sustainability, engineering evaluations to support program planning, project feasibility, engineering and environmental documentation for the CWP deliverables.  Prepare clear and concise reports and discussion papers on various program topics related to the California Water Plan for a diverse audience.  Develop and implement procedures for the presentation of data collected, including database programming and management, spreadsheet calculations, spatial applications such as ArcGIS, QA/QC procedures, technical documentation, and metadata development.  Duties required include technical and engineering support for water use and supply; participation in work groups and teams and preparation of reports and presentations for the CWP.  Experience or knowledge of programming language such as R or Python.  Interpret and analyze water supply and water use data and prepare reporting and visualization of information for upload to California Water Plan web pages and open data portals.  Conduct engineering and planning studies and prepare/edit reports related to current and future statewide water needs for the California Water Plan (Bulletin 160).  Prepare Clear and concise reports and discussion papers on various program topics related to California Water Plan for a diverse audience.
